This is a pattern weld steel blade i made recentally, however the patternweld was'nt brilliant - it is "damascus" in look but obviously not true damascus or wootz steel.
The design of these blades is an extremely old one and has been a traditional blacksmith product for countless generations. Often these peices are refered to as "Blacksmith`s Knives" or in some schools of thought as a "Viking Woman`s Knife"
The real origins to this design are unknown but each blade holds a charachter and build unique to it's creator - no two blades are ever alike.
I saw the thumbnail and thought, "that's a cool metal knife". Then I clicked on it and thought, "no, it's a cool wood knife". Then I read the description and realized it's an awesome metal knife that looks like wood. Great work!
Thanks! - Its a type of metal that is made by layering different types of steel together and forge welding them together, each layer creates a line in the metal and when youve finished working you use a mildly acidic solution to bring out the lines and with that you get a very wood like figuring and slight colour tone.
