The Other Side of Her by Iron-Eye The Other Side of Her by Iron-Eye
We where out walking on a rather stormy day, and I was lucky enough to have the camera with me so we thought we would do an impromptu Shoot. This ere is a view from Bacton coast line and I was pretty pleased with the result.

Comments and Critiques always welcome and genuinely appreciated!!!!!

How have you been enjoying the random summer weather?

Beautifully captured. The towers in the background seemed to be illuminating, which was a very nice touch. The colours of the clouds contrasted perfectly with the open, light-shaded sea; even if it was unintentional, the darker colours of the model's clothing were also very fitting.

If this image was meant to portray how the darker recesses of the human mind contrast so starkly against another, I think it does so wonderfully. Though the theme of people having a "dark side" is a bit overused in my opinion, that doesn't mean it can't be done well.

I love how the clouds above the sea are slightly more evened out than the ones just above the drop to the coast. It adds well to the overall dark theme of the image. It almost seems like something out of a daydream. Splendid work. ^^

This is really sharp.  Hell of a time for a good capture with the darkening sky behind her, looks like she's bringing the darkness with her.  Nice composition -- really gets that epic landscape/sky.   Question: the sharpness of this (so much detail in the shades of the sky and water) -- was that just out of the camera or have you post processed this?  Just wondering exactly what's been done.

Yeah timing mostly and the cannon LII USM 16-35mm is a pretty good bit of glass - albeit softer than allot of the other L series that's still pretty damn sharp. as to the colour and tone thats a little hdr in the post mix and I am not above exposure layering to bring out everything I see. Hope that helps?

yeah.  That's cool.  Is the HDR a function in the camera you have or do you just manually take the same photo at a couple different exposures and then mesh them together in photoshop?

Ive got a couple of programs that will create either fake hdr or utilise mixed exposures but i always exposure bracket my shots so I have some to choose from - the trick is getting models in when their heads break above skylines..

I'd critique this if I were qualified. But I'm a fairly traditional artist & amateur woodworker/canemaker, not a photographer. All I can say is you have a knack for high depth of field & color balancing.

Also, in answer to the latter question, I haven't enjoyed it much. One does not often enjoy summer weather in Florida unless one is a tourist who doesn't stray beyond the beach & air-conditioned buildings.

I really think this portrait is beautiful - so full of emotion! It feels as if the clouds are talking to her.  The way you placed her face right at the light in the background - genius!!

She's a proper cornish surfer girl - normally by the time I've got a camera out she is in and the board is out.

I live in central Minnesota, where "random" summer weather is pretty much the norm - - - and I'm enjoying it.

Now, a very quick and superficial critique.

Composition is very good, 'tells a story,' and (descending from critique to reaction) a sort of image that I'm rather partial to.

The first thing I noticed, after the figure which (I assume) is intended as the image's primary focus of attention was the remarkably light rain/sky/cloud behind the taller (radio mast?).

My brain spent a noticeable length of time deciding whether to shift 'primary focus' to the tower, alternate between the figure and tower, or interpret the lighter background as a - - - tornado funnel? remarkably localized downpour??? artificially-enhanced imagery, done as postwork???? something entirely different?????

That's when I took conscious control of the process, decided to regard the human figure as the image's primary focus, and start reading your commentary.

Which brings me up to writing this.

If the light background which so dramatically (in my eyes) highlights the tower was an unplanned aspect of this work, a natural phenomenon with marvelous timing: wow, that's quite a coincidence, but not the strangest imaginable.

If your intention was to create the (dissonance?) I experienced: well done!

If something else is going on - - - it's still a fine image.

Thanks for sharing.

I tend to do a bit of light painting in post, well spotted - to be honest their isnt too much changed its a rather flat expanse over their so your looking at storms forming and hitting at the same time which is proper cool. Glad you like the shot :) And thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts Youve highlighted parts that other have too so that's given me some really usefull foci for my next shot - food for thought!
